America travels thousands of miles, from the always sunny Natal, in Northeast, to the cold Caxias do Sul to play against Juventude. Hosts fight for promotion, to stay in the top 4, and count on the home factor weapon. America are weak (19th place), do not expect anything from them but to play defense.
On June 29th, in 1958, exactly 50 years ago, Brazil lifted our first World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden. Maybe the best team the country ever had, with legendary players such as Nilton Santos, the Football Enciclopaedia, Didi and his unbelievably curve ball known as the "Dry Leaf shot", and especially the two best brazilian footballers fo all time, Pele (only 17 years old back then) and Garrincha. Brazil never lost a game with Pele and Garrincha playing together. They made and changed the history of the game.
If weren't for them, showing that we could it, we probably would not have Rivelino, Zico, Romario, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, neither 4 more world cup titles.
I was not born then, but from this humble blog I truly thank theses heroes for this wonderful achievement.
Pick: Palmeiras (-0.75) Result: 2-0 Stake: 4/10 Odds: 1.85 Bookmaker: 10betvCash: No Posted: Jun 28, 2008, 22:22
At home, now that Palmeiras are finally aproaching the leaders as expected (one of the favourites to be champions) and playing better than in the beginning of the championship, a HW with a -0.75 handicap is worth taking. Pinnacle has better odds (1.909), but not available to pick in the blog.
Pick: Avaí (-0.75) Result: 2-1 Stake: 4/10 Odds: 1.92 Bookmaker: PinnaclevCash: No Posted: Jun 24, 2008, 17:50
Serie B
Avai are playing really good football, especially for Serie B, and now are only behind leader Corinthians - scoring 9 goals in the last 2 games (4-1 at home over Vila Nova and 5-1 away over America). Ceara have a defense full of flaws - it was absurd the positioning of their defenders in the match against Bahia, whose forwards were free to do whatever they wanted all the time. It was something I hadn't see in a while.
Pick: Grêmio (-0.75) Result: 3-0 Stake: 4/10 Odds: 1.84 Bookmaker: 10betvCash: No Posted: Jun 22, 2008, 20:06
Gremio are in a good moment, ocuping the second spot in the table. I always mention the home factor, and with Gremio this is an important factor. The only game they did not won at Olimpico was against Flamengo, and that only because Fla's GK Bruno was the best player of the match. Atletico PR won't have many players, including Nei and Pedro Odoni, who are with the national olimpic team, and captain Alan Bahia.
Pick: Cruzeiro (-1) Result: 3-0 Stake: 4/10 Odds: 1.97 Bookmaker: PinnaclevCash: No Posted: Jun 21, 2008, 15:13
Figueirense last win over Sport at home is misleading. Sport are not strong as visitor, and probably, the players, as they usually do in Brazil, partied too much after the conquer of Copa do Brasil over Corinthians. Cruzeiro last defeat to palmeiras is also misleading. They were dominating the game untill they got a defender sent off. Cruzeiro have a superior team, even without midfielders Ramires and Charles.
Pick: Sao Paulo (-1) Result: 1-0 Stake: 4/10 Odds: 1.93 Bookmaker: PinnaclevCash: No Posted: Jun 21, 2008, 15:10
As a Sao Paulo fan, i'm happy to see that last two Sao Paulo matches were the best the team played this year: a win at home over atletico MG (5-1) and a excelent win as visitors over strong Flamengo (4-2). Not only the result, but the football the team put on. Copa do Brasil is the biggest trophy Sport ever lifted in their history. It's natural they feel they had already a great year no matter what happen from now on. If they get defeated there will be no pressure over them. And they are not good as visitors, as their many losses away tells us. Coach Nelsinho will set his team in a defensive 3-5-2.
Pick: Ceará Result: 2-2 Stake: 4/10 Odds: 1.80 Bookmaker: ExpektvCash: No Posted: Jun 17, 2008, 17:30
Bahia's good record as visitor is a little tricky: one win was over America, a team that showed nothing so far. Criciuma's campaing, the other away win, is not impressive by any means. Ceara are among the top 4, and need another win to stay among the best. At home they have a perfect record.
